Two of these videos were
produced by the Duke Law School for OA Week in 2009, and two of them are new for this year. The…

In our second year of participating in OA Week, Utah State University has the following activities planned for our table in the Library foyer: posters highlighting national and local stories on open access, Sparc literature, some freebies, treats, a t-shirt drawing, teaser information about Sparky Awards coming spring 2011, and of course the table will be staffed by members of the University Copyright Committee and the Library's fearless Reference Liasons.
We are aiming to spread the…

Creating awareness to open access to users will go along way to supplement printed information sources especially in libraries with limited budgets as well as making accessible current information to students researchers and lecturers as well as other practitioners in other fields.

During the OAW '09 GSLIS students singed the "Student Statement on the Right to Research" and this year are much more aware of the OA benefits. For OAW '10 the student chapters are inviting speakers from various disciplines and at the faculty brown bag luncheon a panel of speakers will discuss OA issues both internationally and locally. For detailed information you can visit the GSLIS OAW website

In the video section of the Open Access Week website, I've just posted a presentation I did at the Apple-sponsored AcademiX 2010 conference exploring how the Open Access movement interacts with the student community and opportunities for building student support for OA (

The JKUAT library is working with JKUAT students to come up with ideas for participation in the OA week. They plan to come up with fun events to help advocate for OA. They have already given suggestions for our proposed OA institutional repository. They are so creative!!! Its fun working with them.

Hi all,
The state of public health in Africa is in dismay to the say the least. I have recently established the journal of public health in Africa: "http://www.publichealthinafrica.com" Like most great innovations, the idea behind JPHIA was spontaneously conceived upon observing the precarious state of public health care delivery in the African continent. The JPHIA is set up as non-profit making open source that will compete with other…

A message to all members of Open Access Week
At this week's Webcast with SPARC director Heather Joseph, we talked about the important opportunity we have with this year's OA Week to surface evidence of how Open Access to research is transforming the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted.
Heather pointed to a few
examples, including how a recent and rare move to share research data on
Alzheimer's disease led to important advances (…

The Open Access Directory (OAD) is pleased to announce that it will once again serve as a comprehensive source of information about events celebrating Open Access Week (OAW). This year's OAW is coming fast -- October 18-24, 2010.
Because OAD is a wiki, event organizers can enter their details directly. If you're planning an OAW event, please describe it on the wiki and help us spread the word about your event. …

Of interest to the OAW network, SPARC has just announced the fourth installment of the Sparky Awards -- a successful contact that invites students to express their support for Open Access to research in a two-minute video. It's a great way to get students involved and increase their comfort with copyright and reuse in the digital space. Plus, it's a great tool for fall classes.
Campuses have promoted the Sparky Awards during Open Access Week, as an easy way to get involved. As…
