Ten years ago, Athabasca University established the first open access university press in Canada. At the time, very few publishers were experimenting with open access as a publishing model and people had a lot of questions about how it would work. We could only guess at some of the answers because we were the first press experimenting with the model. Now, as we celebrate our tenth anniversary, it is time to revisit some of those questions, provide fuller answers, and shed a little light on the truth about open access publishing.
