Event Description

Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR) at the University of Calgary has a fulsome set of events planned for OA Week 2010. Here are some of the main activities:

*On Wednesday, October 20, Jean-Claude Guédon from the Université de Montréal will present on the topic “Reaching the ‘Tipping Point’ in Open Access”. The session is co-sponsored by the University of Calgary Student's Union.

*A workshop for graduate students, “Open Access & Copyright -What Grad Students Need to Know”, will be held on Monday, October 18 and Tuesday, October 19 two times in two locations on campus.

*On Thursday, October 21, there will be a Nickle@Noon session entitled "Open Access and The Nickle's Collections" at The Nickle Arts Museum, beginning at 12:05 pm. This will be presented by Nickle director Dr. Ann Davis.

*On Friday, October 22, the University of Calgary Press will launch its first Open Access publication, "Grey Matters". "Grey Matters" is a guidebook written by and for seniors undertaking personal and community research, written by U of C authors Claudia Emes and Nancy Marlett. It is presented in collaboration with the Kerby Centre and the Marigold Library System.

In addition, the Qatar campus of the University of Calgary will be hosting an OA Week event featuring presentations by Andrew Waller, LCR, and
Arend Kuster and Christopher Leonard, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals.

Also, there will be OA Week displays of all shapes and sizes in Libraries and Cultural Resources locations
throughout the University of Calgary.
