MORE Splendid #Repository Stuff" for #OpenAccess Week: Learn Abt Geology of Grand Canyon State at AZGS

To celebrate Open Access Week 2012 Oct. 21-28 DuraSpace will post a new "For Your Repository Viewing Pleasure" each day (and beyond) to highlight the "splendid stuff in YOUR repository".

The Arizona Legislature established the Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) to investigate and describe Arizona's geology, and to educate and inform the public. AZGS has developed an online open access repository with nearly 1,000 publications and 1,800 objects that have comprised the geologic publications of the AZGS from 1915 to 2012.  Roughly 90% of all of AZGS publications are available as free, downloadable PDFs.  The AZGS publishes geologic maps, reports, and geology-related publications such as Arizona Geology Magazine (http://azgeology.azgs.az.gov/).

AZGS is currently working with the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) to bring interoperable, digital data to the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) as energy conservation and new energy production have become national priorities. Geothermal resources are part of the conservation-renewable resources-alternatives energy equation. NGDS is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to facilitate exploration and reduce the initial risks associated with geothermal energy production.

Please continue to send descriptions of the "Splendid Stuff" that can be found in YOUR Open Access repository. DuraSpace will highlight availability in the "For Your Repository Viewing Pleasure" series this week and throughout year. Please contact Carol Minton Morris cmmorris@duraspace.org for more information.
