Mikael Laakso, Associate Professor Information Systems Science at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki gives a talk at Uppsala University.
New to Open Access? No problem, this talk is aimed to suit both newcomers and those more advanced in their knowledge about the changing landscape of scholarly publishing.
Mikael Laakso's research has focused on bibliometric and economic studies on Open Access so he will provide insight into the longitudinal growth of open access publishing within the major scientific disciplines.
While a large share of the worlds research is still only made available through subscription-access, there is an ongoing shift towards openness both bottom-up among researchers and top-down through science policy.
As part of the general overview Mikael Laakso will include a review the benefits of Open Access for major stakeholder groups (author, reader, the journal, the general public and wider society).
The last part of Mikael Laakso's talk will focus on actions that individual researchers can take in facilitating open access to their research, avoiding pitfalls and making the most out of limitless readership to research outputs.
