As part of International Open Access Week, Brunel invites all academics and students to a conference which brings together industry professionals and Brunel researchers to talk about their commitment to making openness in research a reality.
Tune in to our livestream to catch a talk by Dr Veerle Van den Eynden from the UK Data Archive
Abstract:
Whilst open research practices in general are on the increase, the sharing of research data resulting from research with human participants continues to be seen by researchers as problematic. This was confirmed again during a recent survey with 842 researchers funded by the Wellcome Trust and ESRC, investigating researchers’ attitudes and behaviour towards the sharing and reuse of research data, code, and open access publications. Key findings from this research on current practices, barriers and incentives for sharing data and code will be presented. Over the last decades, and within the context of the ESRC data policy, the UK Data Service has developed extensive expertise and solutions on how to facilitate the sharing of sensitive and confidential data. Whilst they cannot be made openly accessible, they can still be made readily available for future research through a combination of gaining consent for data sharing, anonymisation and suitable access controls.
