SUMMARY:Livestream: Towards open research – how to share (more) sens
 itive research data
DESCRIPTION:As part of International Open Access Week, Brunel invites
all academics and students to a conference which brings together indu
stry professionals and Brunel researchers to talk about their commitme
nt to making openness in research a reality.\nTune in to our livestre
am to catch a talk by Dr Veerle Van den Eynden from the UK Data Archiv
e\nAbstract: Whilst open research practices in general are on the incr
ease, the sharing of research data resulting from research with human
participants continues to be seen by researchers as problematic. This
was confirmed again during a recent survey with 842 researchers funded
by the Wellcome Trust and ESRC, investigating researchers’ attitude
s and behaviour towards the sharing and reuse of research data, code,
and open access publications. Key findings from this research on curre
nt practices, barriers and incentives for sharing data and code will b
e presented. Over the last decades, and within the context of the ESRC
data policy, the UK Data Service has developed extensive expertise an
d solutions on how to facilitate the sharing of sensitive and confiden
tial data. Whilst they cannot be made openly accessible, they can stil
l be made readily available for future research through a combination
of gaining consent for data sharing, anonymisation and suitable access
  controls.\n\nFor more information visit http://legacy.openaccessweek.
