The Research Directorate in partnership with Archbishop Kiwanuka Memorial Library are planning to take part in this year’s International Open Access Week events.
We intend to carry on with the awareness and advocacy activities for Uganda Martyrs University community and we shall be inviting our neighbours, Muteesa 1 Royal University to take part in this year's major event i.e. the mini workshop to be held on 22nd October 2014.
We plan to actively engage students in the activities of the week and also organise activities that will have staff and students getting fully involved in understanding the concept.
The activities we intend to carry out include:
Create real time experience of searching for journal articles via (a) the University network and (b) a network not connected through that of the University
 Showing videos on OA
  Poster and banner displays on OA
  Handing out of OA promotional material
  Show casing and trainings on the use of DSpace@UMU institutional repository
  Handing out policy briefs on the proposed IR policy to encourage further discussion and contribution to the final policy draft
  Half day workshop on Wednesday 22nd October 2014 – The Speaker will be Dr. Paul Nampala of RUFORUM. Dr. Nampala. He is currently the Grants Officer at RUFORUM; he is the Editor of the Crop Science Journal; he has spoken, on a number of occasions about OA in institutions of Higher Learning, and the benefits of publishing through OA (on local and international arenas; he initiated the establishment of the RUFORUM Institutional Repository; he was an academic in the Faculty of Agriculture, Makerere University he is very knowledgeable in the subject area. 
  Promoting OA resources and introducing lecturers to available open education resources
