DESCRIPTION:The Research Directorate in partnership with Archbishop Ki
 wanuka Memorial Library are planning to take part in this yearâ€™s Int
 ernational Open Access Week events.\nWe intend to carry on with the aw
 areness and advocacy activities for Uganda Martyrs University communit
 y and we shall be inviting our neighbours, Muteesa 1 Royal University 
 to take part in this year's major event i.e. the mini workshop to be h
 eld on 22nd October 2014.\nWe plan to actively engage students in the 
 activities of the week and also organise activities that will have sta
 ff and students getting fully involved in understanding the concept.\n
 The activities we intend to carry out include:\nï‚§Create real time ex
 perience of searching for journal articles via (a) the University netw
 ork and (b) a network not connected through that of the University\nï‚
 § Showing videos on OA ï‚§ Poster and banner displays on OA ï‚§ Handin
 g out of OA promotional material ï‚§ Show casing and trainings on the 
 use of DSpace@UMU institutional repository ï‚§ Handing out policy brie
 fs on the proposed IR policy to encourage further discussion and contr
 ibution to the final policy draft ï‚§ Half day workshop on Wednesday 2
 2nd October 2014 â€“ The Speaker will be Dr. Paul Nampala of RUFORUM. 
 Dr. Nampala. He is currently the Grants Officer at RUFORUM; he is the 
 Editor of the Crop Science Journal; he has spoken, on a number of occa
 sions about OA in institutions of Higher Learning, and the benefits of
  publishing through OA (on local and international arenas; he initiate
 d the establishment of the RUFORUM Institutional Repository; he was an
  academic in the Faculty of Agriculture, Makerere University he is ver
