If you could have an Openaccess Toolbar, a tailor-made widget or browser extension, a Wibar or even a mobile version, WHAT would to definitely like to have in it?

Please let me know and I will add the content.

Some examples, (but it's really unlimited: If it's on the web, I can get it in there!)

-Direct search in OAISTER, DOAJ, OPENDOAR, PLoS, Springer Open , ....

- See Twitter News from important OpenAccess Tweeps and Tworgs

- See the Facebook updates

- Updates from prominent OA Blogger

- Updates from OA Publishers

- ....
QuickLinks to .. you name it , movies, pictures, rss feeds, menu's, tickers searchboxes

All info can be shown, read, inside your browser, without you having to leave what you are doing.

What I would like to see in such a tool would be anything that would allow to label a given DOI as having an OA version (i.e.having been published Gold OA, or actually archived Green), as per item 1 in

http://species-id.net/wiki/User:Daniel_Mietchen/Talks/Science_Online_London_2011/Hackathon_suggestions . Sherpa ROMEO just states whether a journal allows self-archiving, but not whether a particular article for which archiving is allowed has actually been made available. Mendeley has an OA flag in their database but not in the API.

The reason why this would be handy is that if there would be a way to automatically label a DOI as OA or not, we could include that information into the citation templates in use at Wikipedia, and thus flag every citation as to whether an OA version actually exists, as done manually in places like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2011-09-2... . There are various bots operating at Wikipedia that check for broken links, so maintaining the flagging system is a lesser problem than getting it started in the first place.

One way to address this would be a browser plugin or gadget that would allow people (or bots) to easily flag articles as having an OA version or not.

Good blog you have got here.. It's hard to find high quality writing like yours nowadays. I really appreciate individuals like you! Take care!!
