with Dr Caroline Magennis, Lecturer in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature
The University of Salford is celebrating this year's Open Access Week with a pair of lunchtime talks by researchers who are engaging with the wider public by making their research openly accessible. The theme of this year's Open Access Week is "Open in order to..." and each event will look at our researchers' motivations for opening up their research publications and research data and the benefits of openness for audiences beyond academia.
Caroline will be talking about her work with the Open Library of Humanities, a charitable organisation dedicated to publishing open access scholarship with no author-facing fees. She will discuss the ongoing work for the #Agreement20 project, which is a multi-strand academic public engagement project featuring community partners. She will focus on the advantages of OLH's model, particularly the timeliness of the rolling deadline approach for commenting on current political events and its use in engaging the community.
Staff from the library will also briefly talk about how they support open research activities at the university and there'll be an opportunity for discussion and networking too.
Lunch will be provided.
Any questions, please contact s.b.carlton@salford.ac.uk. You can contribute to Open Access Week at the university by tweeting with the hashtag #OAWeekSalford.
