Event Description

Join the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL, a division of the American Library Association) for a free ACRL Presents webcast as we celebrate Open Access Week! The webcast, “Open Data Repositories: Creating Equitable and Sustainable Data Access,” will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, from 1:00 — 2:00 p.m. Central time (UTC -5. 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Pacific | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Mountain | 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Central | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Eastern. Convert additional time zones online.)

The push for open data has become ubiquitous, but challenges are still ahead in attaining equitable and sustainable access through disciplinary, institutional, and publisher repositories. This webcast will briefly review the current landscape of data repositories and the challenges researchers continue to face. The presenters will discuss how repositories present opportunities and threats to equitable and sustainable access. The webcast will continue with an exploration of the DataONE model and how this NSF-funded network of data repositories is implementing best practices for deposit, provenance, access, sustainability, and reuse for earth sciences data.

Presenters:

Abigail Goben, MLS, is an Associate Professor and Information Services Librarian at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sandusky is a member of ASIST and serves as the co-chair for the DataONE Users Group.
