The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland has granted its patronage to the Polish celebration of the Open Access Week. Throughout the whole Open Access Week, various institutions and organisations will organise many events online (webinars) and offline (training sessions, presentations, seminars) promoting openness in science and also a lot of educational materials like films, video clips, etc. will be created on this occasion. For now, 26 initiatives are registered on the Polish Open Access Week 2015 website, i.a:
15.10 at 12:00 (room 82) University Library in Poznań, Open Access Week lecture entitled "Open Educational Resources in Poland and worldwide" (mgr Maria Lamberti).
19.10 at 18.00 webinar for scientists about legal use of open network resources for research and teaching. Webinar organized by Foundation Laboratory of Research and Social Action „SocLab” and two libraries: University Library in Bialystok and The Nicolaus Copernicus University Library in Toruń . The webinar will be given by Bożena Bednarek-Michalska from The Nicolaus Copernicus University
19.10 at 12:00 (room 82) University Library in Poznań, Open Access Week lecture entitled "Institutional repository as a window of opportunity for scientist and institution - case study of AMUR". The lecture will be given by Małgorzata Rychlik, repository manager of AMUR.
20.10 at 12:00 in Staszica Palace (Warszawa), the Digital Humanities Centre at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences will launch a new portal called BiuletynPolonistyczny.pl. A debate on the „Digital means of scientific communication and the development of Polish language research” will take place.
21.10 at 14:00 (room 123) Poznań School of Technology Library, Open Access Week lecture by dr Emanuel Kulczycki entitled "Scientific communication - towards openness and cooperation". Registration and more information: http://library.put.poznan.pl/pl/2015/10/01/134110#.VhKA-ZfDvwg.
21.10 at 9:00-11:00 The E-learning Centre of the AGH University of Science and Technology will conduct a workshop for scholarly teachers entitled "Open Access to scientific publications". The purpose of the workshop is to teach basic skills required for open access publishing and for the use of open publications in their own research. The workshop will be run by Karolina Grodecka (CeL AGH).
21.10 at 12:00 (room 82) in University Library in Poznań, Open Access Week lecture of mgr Emilia Karwasińska entitled "Journals open to the World - university platform for digital scientific journals PRESSto".
21.10 at 10.00 – 13.00 The Open Science Platform in cooperation with Citizens of Academia, Digital Lab for Humanities and the University of Warsaw Library will organize a seminar for phd students “Publish and don’t perish – how to publish to be visible and to support your research career?”.
22.10 at 12:00 The Gdańsk University of Technology Library invites scientists, librarians, and doctoral candidates to a presentation entitled "Openness and cooperation in Open Access models". Agenda: towards openness – Open Access in Poland and abroad; Publishing models; Open Access journals and publishers; Open Access and Horizon 2020; How to share your research results. Venue: Sala Mulitimedialna Biblioteki Głównej/Gmach Główny. The presentation will be given by mgr Magdalena Szuflita (Sekcja Informacji Naukowo-Technicznej).
The Open Science Platform produced a short video "Open Data for Better Research" to promote the openness of research data. The video presents experts' views on data sharing and reuse. It features Tim Smith (CERN), Mark Thorley (RCUK), Kevin Ashley (DCC) and Mark Parsons (RDA).
The video is available on the Open Science Platform YouTube channel.
Throughout the whole week, the University Library in Toruń will run an information campaign about Open Science. Librarians dressed in OA t-shirts and glasses will distribute leaflets designed by Centrum Cyfrowe. A movie prepared at the University Library in Łódź and video interviews from the ICM UW Open Science Platform will be shown in the library halls.
