Open Access Week

On behalf of the library, staff and students and on my behalf I wish thank all those who graced or participated in the inaugural open access week activities. Thank you for helping to make it a great success. Your exceptional contribution, energy, passion and enthusiasm helped kick the entire events into high gear. Thanks to you, I believe the level of open access awareness is now high.

The open access concept will increase visibility of our researchers through global citations, increase dissemination of findings, enhance the quality of research and improve JKUAT ranking globally.

University Administration
I wish to appreciate administration through the University Librarian for the support accorded to the library to help the events take off.

Student planning team
Festus Okumu, thanks so much for your tireless efforts. You demonstrated leadership and enthusiasm every step of way by rallying students to participate in open access week activities. Thank you for contribution in making the event such a huge success.
Mike Mwaura, Joseph Chira, your creativity and energy is amazing. The cards, bandanas, posters, t-shirts and other decorations were really innovative and fun.
James Gathatwa, you are one highly motivated and committed individual.

Beauty pageants
You managed to capture the theme of the whole event so well. Your creativity and talent is awesome!!! Wahu and Catherine Thuku, I applaud your resourcefulness. To the pageants you are all winners!!!!

Creative messages & Open Source projects
Thank you for your articles, poems, open source projects and other creative messages. Thank you for sharing those creative messages and innovative projects.

JKUMUN
Geaorge Thinua, Mike, Waweru , thank you very much for variable time and sharing with us brilliant open access ideas and experiences.

Workshop facilitators
The library held the following workshops:
1. Anti –plagiarism detector
2. Referencing tools
3. Web technologies for learning , teaching and research
Much appreciation to workshop facilitators (Kenneth Mubea, Francis Xavier and Evans Mungai) for their resourcefulness

Safaricom
I laud the presence of safaricom for boosting connectivity during the OA celebrations. This improved delivery of online content

INASP & PLOS
I wish to thank INASP and PLOS for facilitating open access activities

Entertainment
The dancers and the DJ were great. Thank you for keeping us entertained. Your contribution is much appreciated

Emcee
The emcees were excellent, thank you very much for superb job!!

Library Staff
I acknowledge the team of dedicated colleagues who organized the event. University Librarian and Deputy Librarian, thank you for your tremendous efforts. Miriam Ndungu, Samuel Muthami and Mary Wachira as always, thank for rising to the occasion

If you have not been acknowledged wherever you are whatever your contribution I want to state that we are most grateful It was a pleasure working with all of you and I look forward to continued teamwork.
