Open Access Week 2011 activity world map

OAW2010 activity map was offered after the Open Access Week had finished. This year however, both Jennifer McLennan (SPARC) and Benjamin Hennig (Wordmapper Project & University of Sheffield, UK) agreed to try to provide and process the data before OAW2011 was actually held. The OAW2011 activity map shows a weighted picture of the world according to the number of planned activities to be organised by country along forthcoming Open Access Week (Oct 24-30, 2011).

Sure, but in principle, they could all be mapped to (or around) a circle of latitude 90° N or S, which in this projection would map to a horizontal line (perhaps distorted a little by the weighting algorithm).

Activities organised at a supranational level can hardly be mapped in such a country-focused picture (not just the very OAW2010, but activities at EU or UNESCO level). They can however be listed in a specific entry at the table. Not too many of those yet in comparison, though.

How can we factor things in that are not tied to a specific country, like this very http://www.openaccessweek.org/ ?
