Welcome to the DOAJ blog!

During Open Access week the DOAJ team members are about to make a first visit in the blogosphere! The reasons for doing this are that we want to celebrate Open Access week by participating and make a contribution in the area of our expertise. Each day we will release a new “theme of the day” and highlight listed journals and articles related to the theme.

We cordially welcome you to participate in this event, to comment on the blog and to highlight your own favorite journals on the theme of the day.

What is DOAJ?

DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) is a service which collects and lists scientific and scholarly Open Access journals. Our aim is to cover all languages and subjects. The project was initiated at the First Nordic Conference on Scholarly Communication in 2002 and has since its start been steadily growing, thanks to economic support from our sponsors and members.

At the moment we have 5514 journals from 108 countries in the directory and we hope that we will increase these numbers throughout the week! Since we are dependent on suggestions from publishers, editors and our users, we need YOUR help to find new journals. Celebrate Open Access week through suggesting new titles to us! Before suggesting, please read through our selection criteria and if the journal seems suitable for the directory please suggest it here – cause wouldn’t it be great to see a journal that you have suggested being added this week?

How can you and your institution use DOAJ?

Except being a database where you can search for journals and articles, DOAJ is an OAI compliant. This means that its records can be included into another collection – for example a library catalogue – without the effort of having to do it manually.
