What are your goals for OA Week?
Actually, my area of interest is mainly scoped on the topic-Open Access. Being a scientist, it is very important to have a full literature survey and both the past and newly published state of the art related to the idea I’m working on. This will help a lot in building a more wise point of view. Unfortunately, publishers try all the time to advance their artificial barriers, these artificial barriers are maintained by legacy publishers and restrict access to a small fraction of users, locking out most of the world’s population and preventing the use of new research techniques.I started working in the research domain and preparing for my master thesis in 2005 until the present, at this time the situation was very difficult and the Egyptian research institutes and universities did not aware of the significance of the situation. The Egyptian scientists were struggling until 2010. The Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology start to buy access for some of the publishing company. However, the more blooming Egyptian project was settled in 2016, where Egyptian Knowledge Bank was launched and open the access for all scientist to be able to navigate the most important publishing companies. However, the problem still running, because not all the published items in the EKB can be accessed and not all the published companies are included in the EKB. Therefore, I hope to participate to know about new solutions to this important problem threatening my career building up.
How did you hear of the OA Week site?
I was applying to OPENCON 2017 and this week was mentioned there. I'm totally interested in this week and in the Open Access call
