Open Access Week

October 23 - 29, 2023 | Everywhere

Reading out his concise opening address on OA week celebration of 2011 in MOUAU. ...see the address:

The Vice Chancellor Sir . . .
I sincerely thank God for this privilege this afternoon.
I will not fail to tell us that the bedrock of the journey we are about to embark is one of the fruits of a vision.
Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised to hear me mention vision.
My bible tells me that young men of this generation shall have visions (Joel 2:28).
And, as if the power behind the bible knows that patience would be scarce in young men, it went further to tell me that my visions would tarry, but that when it tarries I keep hoping and confessing it and soon, it comes to pass (Hab.2:3).
Dear senior and fellow academics, this meeting today is to share with all of us a term in the global academic research community called “Open Access”.
“Open Access” is like a stone that kills three birds when thrown.
“Open Access adoption” would not only catch the establishment of a successful Institutional Repository in MOUAU,
But will as well announce the university to the global ranking circle.
And individually, it will broadcast the names and academic image of the lecturers and researchers who practice it to world’s academic circle.
As a matter of fact, what this tool called “Open Access” can do for academics are wonderful.
That is why the International Network for Availability of Scientific Publication (INASP) was pleased to support this meeting with a sum of 500 dollars.
Today, Open Access is placing universities like MOUAU in the Web-metrics ranking of universities in the world.
And that is exactly the vision my humble person have for this our dear institution.
I recall I prayed the Vice Chancellor to take to heart this importance of Institutional Repository on the day he came to the university library for a chat with us.
And I know he will do something on it.
However, for us to fully understand what Open Access is and how we can start utilizing it in MOUAU, we had to go out, like a bitch football coach, in search of skilled and energetic footballer to captain the bitch team.
I and my team members had our eyes on the foreign and high profiled players, who had played in FIFA organized bitch games.
But, the allowance we had was meager for them.
So while we worried ourselves, we never knew that in the slums at the back of our training ground was this barefooted energetic player, who can play amidst any volume of sand. He is here in our midst and would be the captain to tell us what to do.
At this juncture, while we wait for the formal introduction of the “Captain”, I most respectfully welcome all of us to this ceremony that will be published on the internet from November 15 this year.
Thank you all.
