On Thursday, July 29, the Information Policy, Census and National Archives Subcommittee of the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform held the first-ever Congressional hearing on the issue of public access to federally funded research. The Subcommittee, chaired by The Honorable Representative Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO), invited ten witnesses, representing a broad cross-section of the stakeholder communities affected by this issue, to testify on the implications of opening access to the results of publicly funded research.

Dear Colleagues,
The Federal Research Public Access Act (H.R. 5037) has been referred to the H.R. Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where the Chairman is actively considering holding an open hearing on the bill. Please contact the committee member from your state to support an open hearing. An open hearing will allow the bill's sponsors and supporters to spell out the issues to a larger audience - and will hopefully bolster the bill's popularity with the voting public and thus help to ensure its passage.
Below is a list of the committee members from our New England states. Maine is not represented on the committee. Please send an email or letter by August 9th . The Alliance For Taxpayer Access has a template and talking points at: http://www.taxpayeraccess.org/action/action_frpaa/10-0701.shtml.
