On Tuesday Oct 20th, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm, the Knowledge Equity Lab will be cohosting a collaborative presentation and conversation on Technologies of Power and Control in Knowledge Infrastructures with members of Bioline International, KnowledgeGAP, and Reprising the Real World of Technology.
In the 1st hour, Kanishka Sikri of Reprising the Real World and OpenPraxisForum will be sharing the learnings and ideas of Ursula Franklin and other feminists, including the importance of Situated Knowledge, Radical Citation, & Holistic Technologies in Knowledge Infrastructures. Then, George Chen of KnowledgeGAP will be unveiling the hidden power structures and modes of control by private for-profit publishers in his presentation Publisher Control in Research Production: Infrastructural Integration & Rankings Promotion. Lastly, Matthew Lefaive of Bioline International will be sharing how open infrastructure and governance processes can be a radical alternative to dominant for-profit models in his presentation Bioline International: A Community-Based Open Access Infrastructure.
In the second hour, each speaker will pose reflection questions, and invite participants to share their thoughts and perspectives. The rest of the hour will be open to Q&A and open conversation.
