Event Description

Directed to teachers, researchers, students and librarians, this conference gathers experts from Sciences and Humanities to reflect on the sense of their professional activities. 'Open Access and scholarly publishing' is one of our thematic panels, where Gary Hall (Coventry University, United Kingdom) will be discussing “What are the Digital Post-Humanities: OA and Pirate Philosophy”, and Eloy Rodrigues (Universidade do Minho, Portugal) will talk about “Open Access in Portugal and in the World: Where are we and where are we going?”. Throughout the day, the conference's keynote speakers are also expected to discuss some of the following questions: How do scientists communicate with their peers? What are the consequences from the way they do so to the scientific results they achieve? What challenges emergent publication modes - digital publication, open access, multimedia or non-textual outputs, LOTE, archive, indexing, and the social and political aspects of knowledge classification and ranking - impact? Can Art, Social Sciences, and Letters, embrace them with no reservations? Should they do so? And how does all this relates to the humanities crisis: cause or effect?
