EWU Library celebrated International Open Access Week from 21 October 2019 to 24 October 2019. This week established by Scholarly Publishing and Academic ResourcesCoalition (SPARC) and partners in the student community in 2008. This year’s theme is "Open for whom? Equity in Open Knowledge".
It is a global, community-driven week of action to open up access to research. The event is celebrated by individuals, institutions and organizations across the world, and its organization is led by a global advisory committee.
Every year, EWU Library organizes different events for celebrating this week. This year, EWU Library observed this week with the following series of programs:
• Awareness building campaign on "Open Access Publishing Practices" among university community. In this regard, EWU library has set up a booth inside the library from 21 October 2019 to 24 October 2019
• Essay Competition has organized for the students on 22 October 2019 at Digital Section of EWU Library at 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. More than 30 participants from different departments of EWU took part in this competition. Among them, top 10 participants were selected for the prizes and awarded certificates
• A seminar on "Open Access Publishing Practices for Early Career Researchers" has organized on 22 October 2019 at Newspaper and Journal Section of EWU Library at 3:00 pm.-4:00 pm.
The resource person was Dr. Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management & Librarian (In-charge), East West University. Mr. A. Z. M. Shafiqul Alam, Treasurer, East West University was the chief guest and Dr. Mohammed Ruhul Amin, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, East West University was the special guest in the seminar. Dr. Dilara Begum has focused the processes of open access publishing for the early career researchers in the Seminar. Mr. A. Z. M. Shafiqul Alam addressed the importance of equity and inclusive of open knowledge for the early career researchers in his speech.
Around 60 participants including faculty members, students and early-career researchers from different departments were present in this seminar.
