SUMMARY:You Know What You Write, But Do You Know Your Rights?
DESCRIPTION:When you publish a journal article, you sign a copyright a
 greement. Do you know what you're agreeing to when you sign it? Differ
 ent journals have different policies: \n\nSome journals require you t
 o relinquish your copyright. (After you sign this kind of agreement, y
 ou have to ask permission or even pay to share your article with stude
 nts and colleagues!)\nSome journals allow you to retain some rights (e
 .g., the right to post the article online). \nSome journals leave cop
 yright in your hands. (You simply give the journal a non-exclusive lic
 ense to publish the article.)\n\nHow can you find out a journal's poli
 cy? How can you negotiate your contract to make the most of your right
 s as a scholar, researcher, and author? Come learn over lunch how to p
 reserve your rights to reproduce, distribute, and display the work you
