DESCRIPTION:For Open Access Week, Florida Tech’s Evans Library is pl
 eased to consider the topic of economic models for academic journal pu
 blishing that can wean us away from past practice with its expensive p
 aywalls.  First, Ivy Anderson, of the University of California’s Ca
 lifornia Digital Library, will report on the SCOAP3 project, with its 
 OA-flipping success in the field of high-energy physics—potentially 
 auspicious as well for analogously focused professional association pu
 blishing.  Next, materials scientists Johna Leddy, of the University 
 of Iowa, and Gerald Frankel, of the Ohio State University, will share 
 the story of the “Free the Science” program undertaken by the Elec
 trochemical Society.  Third, economist Christian Zimmermann (perhaps 
 familiar to scholComm librarians as a driving force behind the RePEc p
 re-print repository) will look at these OA publishing models to help s
 hed light on fruitful paths for future efforts.  We’ll wrap up with
