DESCRIPTION:The Future of Scholarly Publishing – A Symposium\nFlorid
 a State University Libraries will host a symposium titled \"The Future
  of Scholarly Publishing\" as part of International Open Access Week. 
 The event will feature a lecture by Dr. Mark Riley, Chair of the Depar
 tment of Physics “What is Open Access and Why Does it Matter?” Fol
 lowing the lecture will be a panel discussion and lightning talks on t
 opics, issues and ideas surrounding scholarly communication in the dig
 ital age.\nProposals are now being accepted for panelists and/or light
 ning talks relating to the future directions of scholarship in light o
 f the tools and possibilities afforded by the open web. Lightning talk
 s should be 5 minutes or less, and can be accompanied by slides or oth
 er presentation tools. This type of talk offers a creative and differe
 nt approach to the academic presentation while emphasizing brevity and
  simplicity in sharing knowledge. Examples can be seen at http://ignit
 eshow.com.  Faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students ar
 e encouraged to submit 200-250 word abstracts for participation.\nPoss
