SUMMARY:Sharing Research: PrePrints & Data
DESCRIPTION:Speaker Talks\nSponsored by Countway Library, Harvard P
rogram in Therapeutic Science (HiTS), Office of Basic Science\nGrowt
h of the open science movement has drawn significant attention to data
sharing and availability across the scientific community. However, M
any researchers are encountering both technical (lack of resources and
tools) and cultural (sensitive data, uncomfortable sharing) difficult
ies in the application of this exciting new approach.\nIn this session
we will hear from four professionals on their work to bring new resea
rch into public view in order to increase scientific communication and
discovery. Topics include preprints, or manuscripts posted online bef
ore the completion of journal-organized peer review; the HMS LINCS Pro
ject, in which cancer datasets are being shared; the Reich Lab, whichÂ
works with ancient genomics data resources their lab creates and shar
es; and the Department of Health Care Policy, who tend to be creative
in order to comply with funder requirements on data sharing.\nIn this
interactive discussion, we will address the benefits of sharing resea
rch and data throughout the research lifecycle, concerns and challenge
s surrounding these practices, and new developments.\nSpeakers:\n\nCat
herine Luria, PhD, Scientific Program Manager, HMS LINCS Center, Harva
rd Program in Therapeutic Science\nShop Mallick, Bioinformatics Direct
or, Reich Lab, Department of Genetics\nJessica Polka, PhD, Director,
ASAPbio, Visiting Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Systems
Biology\nCaroline Wood, Manager of Data Security and Compliance, De
partment of Health Care Policy\n\n\nFor more information visit http://
