SUMMARY:SHARE and SPARC different perspectives on federal open access
 mandates at K-State
DESCRIPTION:K-State Libraries’ Center for the Advancement of Digital
Scholarship celebrates Open Access Week\nK-State celebrates Open Acce
ss Week, Oct. 19-25, 2015, with expert insight on new federal research
mandates.\nThis year’s theme is “Open for Collaboration,” which
is doubly fitting, since K-State Libraries recently opened The Center
for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship (CADS). On Thursday, Octob
er 22, CADS will host a discussion of recent federal open access manda
tes.\nResearchers across campus are impacted by requirements that fede
ral agencies with more than $100M in R&D expenditures create plans to
make results of federally funded research freely available to the publ
ic. Accordingly, CADS has invited professionals from the Scholarly Pub
lishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and SHared Access Res
earch Ecosystem (SHARE) to give their perspective on the OSTP Memo and
the FASTR Act.\n\nShawn Daugherty is assistant director for programs
and operations at SPARC. She handles member services, federal and stat
e policy and general operations. Prior to joining the SPARC team in 20
14, Shawn developed and implemented advocacy strategies for non-profit
clients at The Sheridan Group.\nJudy Ruttenberg, program director at
SHared Access Research Ecosystem (SHARE), is primarily responsible for
managing the SHARE initiative, which is building a free, open data se
t about research and scholarly activities across their life cycle.\nCy
nthia Hudson-Vitale from Washington University St. Louis, is a visitin
g program officer providing outreach and engagement support for the SH
ARE initiative. She is engaging with the SHARE working and task groups
and the larger stakeholder community to increase the adoption of SHAR
E services.\nPHOTO AND DESCRIPTION OF LAST SPEAKER COMING SOON!\n\nEac
h guest will speak for about 10 minutes, leaving room for discussion a
t the end.\nFor your convenience, you can join the discussion in perso
n in Hale Library’s Hemisphere Room or via Zoom with meeting ID: 560
424 803.\n\nJoin from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android: https://ksu.zoo
