 es into open access repositories, the campus implementation of the UC 
 Open Access Policy, the early stages of support for Open Educational M
 aterials/Open Educational Resources, and the commemoration of internat
 ional Open Access Week around the world. \n\n \n\nGabriel J. Gardner
 , Senior Assistant Librarian for Criminal Justice, Linguistics and Rom
 ance, German, and Russian Languages and Literatures at CSU Long Beach 
 will discuss his study of use and access to scholarly journals, includ
 ing an assessment of Sci-Hub’s pirating of articles offered for free
 , and for which he was criticized by the President and CEO of the Asso
 ciation of American Publishers, Thomas H. Allen, who wrote to the CSU-
 LB’s Dean of Libraries, Roman Kachan. \n\n \n\nAlison Scott, Assoc
 iate University Librarian for Collections and Scholarly Communication,
  will address the significance of transformative scholarly publishing 
 projects and best practices.\n\n \n\nKent LaCombe, Water Resources Li
 brarian, Water Resources Collections and Archives, will talk about the
  University of Nebraska, Lincoln faculty deposits into the IR Digital 
 Commons, and comment on how librarians at UNL fostered high publicatio
 n deposit rates from campus affiliates.\n\n \n\nOpen Access Opportuni
 ties for UCR Researchers:  Librarians Kat Koziar (Engineering), Tiffa
 ny Moxham (Medicine) and Michele Potter (Engineering), will provide a 
 quick update on UCR’s current open access discount and waiver agreem
 ents as well as a brief look at emergent open access publishing models
 .  They will also discuss tips on spotting and avoiding predatory “
