SUMMARY:Realising the Opportunities of the Digital Humanities
DESCRIPTION:The focus of this event is to engage academia, industry, c
 ultural institutions and public bodies to identify the key research ch
 allenges in digital humanities, and to further build the academic-indu
 stry partnerships that will enable adoption of digital humanities skil
 ls, technologies and tools. This focus will extend to the innovative u
 se of digital humanities technologies in the public sector demonstrati
 ng social benefit, such as the digitisation of the Irish census and th
 e use of open linked public data, and the value of open access.   Thi
 s is the first in a series of workshops targeting the industry-academi
 c interface for identifying and realising the opportunities of the dig
 ital humanities. The event is jointly organised by the two major digit
 al humanities national infrastructures (the DRI and the DHO), and the 
 largest semantic web research Institute (DERI), together with a large-
 scale European digital infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (DAR
 IAH). During the three days, participants will expand their skills thr
 ough a series of workshops lead by subject matter experts, in the area
 s of data visualisation and in the application of linked data to lever
 age the semantic web for scholarly humanities research. This workshop 
 will combine a day of hands-on practical application with master class
 es and lectures and a day long symposium drawing together academic and
