SUMMARY:Opening Knowledge Equitably in an Inequitable System
DESCRIPTION:The Penn State University Libraries present an online talk
  by Natalia Norori, a global health and open access expert, in celebra
 tion of Open Access Week. Norori will speak on the topic, \"Opening Kn
 owledge Equitably in an Inequitable System.\" In order to open knowled
 ge equitably, open research should enable people from all backgrounds 
 to learn about and contribute to topics important to them and their co
 mmunities. However, this is not always the case. In this talk, we wil
 l reflect on the challenges faced by early career researchers who are 
 traditionally excluded from research, including cultural, ideological,
  and practical barriers. Open research could play a crucial role in bu
 ilding structural equity, but to do so, it should put the needs of mar
 ginalized communities and minority groups at its core. This space will
  provide an opportunity to discuss how opening research inclusively ca
 n help build better research practices, and move us towards a fair and
  equitable system.\nThis event is open to the Penn State community and
