 ng OA Week. These center around a Monday October 18 Kick-Off Party for
  the university's newly launched open access database SURFACE http://s
 urface.syr.edu (Peter Graham Scholarly Commons - E.S. Bird Library, Sy
 racuse, NY 4-6pm Oct 18)\n\nTuesday October 19 – Thursday October 21
  - Librarians in the Library's \"Research, Collections and Scholarly C
 ommunications\" unit will facilitate continuous interactive drop-in tr
 aining sessions for the university's faculty and graduate students. Fo
 cus of the sessions will be an introduction to the SURFACE institution
 al repository and guidance on how to upload publications (Oct 19: 9am-
 5pm; Oct 20: 10am-Noon; Oct 21: 3:30-5:30pm - Electronic Training Cent
 er, Lower Level - E.S. Bird Library).\n\nThroughout the week, Libraria
 ns will also staff a SURFACE/Open Access information table in E.S. Bir
 d Library’s Learning Commons.\n\nSURFACE, the Syracuse University Re
 search Facility and Collaborative Environment, is a database that will
  provide access to the extensive and diverse array of work produced at
  S.U. Its purpose is to gather, organize, disseminate and preserve the
  cultural and scholarly record. Making the richness of S.U. knowledge 
 available to the world through free and open access is the very essenc
 e of fulfilling the mission of education as a public good. Syracuse Un
