 onal Endowment for the Humanities \nDr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Directo

 ameron Neylon, Advocacy Director for Public Library of Science\nDr. Mi
 chael Stebbins, Assistant Director for Biotechnology in the Science Di
 vision of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy \n\nT
 he kickoff event will take place at the World Bank. A LiveBlog and web
 cast of the panel discussion and ceremony will be available for those 
 who cannot attend in person. The event will be recorded and be availab
 le to the community for use during and after local Open Access events.
  No registration is necessary for the webcast. Participants are encour
 aged to post their questions for the panel in advance and during the e
 vent at, and to stream the webcast to kick off their own Open Access W
 eek events.\n \nThe event will begin with a 60-minute panel discussio
 n, entitled, “Open Access: Redefining Impact,” hosted by Heather J
 oseph, Executive Director of SPARC. Among the topics to be discussed a
 re Article Level Metrics (ALM’s) and changing the way scholarly comm
 unication is measured. \n \nFollowing the panel discussion, winning 
 nominations of the new Accelerating Science Award Program (ASAP) will
  be announced. Elizabeth Marincola, Chief Executive Officer of PLOS, 
 Robert Kiley, Head of Digital Services, Wellcome Library at the Wellc
 ome Trust, and Alex Kozak Policy Analyst, Public Policy and Governme
 nt Relations at Google will each announce a winning ASAP nomination. 
 The ASAP Program, sponsored by 27 global organizations including Googl
 e, PLOS, and the Wellcome Trust, recognizes those who have built upon 
 Open Access scientific research for new innovations shaping our societ

  named as SPARC Innovator for its implementation of a new open access
  policy, which included the launch of the World Bank Open Knowledge Re
