SUMMARY:Open Access: are Southern voices being stifled?
DESCRIPTION:Researchers from developing countries struggle to get thei
r voices heard in a global publishing environment which favours Northe
rn voices. At the same time, information users in developing countries
face exorbitant fees when they try to access research which is locked
away in prestigious and expensive northern journals.\n \nOpen Access
is concerned with the right of the public to access to publically fun
ded research. It is about ensuring that research literature is made av
ailable online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensi
ng restrictions. How can this vision of Open Access become a reality f
or researchers and research users in developing countries? And as Open
Access debates move beyond the journal, what does Open Access offer t
o research communication for development?\n \nThis webinar will featu
re Eve Gray & Rebecca Kahn, both seasoned Open Access campaigners &
researchers, along with James Georgalakis, Head of Communications at t
he Institute of Development Studies. \nFollow the webinar live on the
IDS website & submit questions via Twitter using the hashtag:  #Open
