SUMMARY:Knowledge Without Borders: The Open Access Movement's Impact o
 n the Flow of Information
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk on the global impact of open access pre
sented by Robyn Hall (Scholarly Communications Librarian, MacEwan Univ
ersity) and Dan Mirau (Library Director, Concordia University of Edmon
ton). \nDescription: The Internet enables ideas, scholarship, and dat
a to travel the world over. However, all too often commercial interest
s put restrictive borders around this information thereby limiting stu
dents, scientists, patients, policy makers, and others from accessing
the information they need. Drawing on the concept of disruptive innova
tion, this session will explore online tools and strategies that suppo
rters of the open access movement are using to tell the stories of the
se unmet information needs from around the world, while also highlight
ing recent, groundbreaking initiatives working to dismantle commercial
barriers and allow scholarly information to flow more freely online.\
