 smal data scientists? The data revolution in economics\"\nEconomics is
  experiencing a data revolution which is transforming how data is coll
 ected, stored, and analysed. The talk provides a non-specialist overvi
 ew of the challenges and opportunities of this revolution for economic
 s, linking them especially to how other disciplines, and new fields, a
 re evolving. Particular challenges for economics concern how tradition
 al empirical analyses relate to the ‘new data analytics’ now emerg
 ing from computer science, and which are having enormous impacts on bu
 siness practice. Particular opportunities arise for economics in the s
 cale and granularity of data on the economy increasingly available, an
 d insights at both micro and macro levels these afford. Dr Kane will o
 ffer some reflections on the consequence for economics education as we
